    ABOUT THE CANDIDATE

Growing up, I lived in several regions of the country; I was born in New York, later moving to Alabama and Washington. I chose to come to Utah for school, working in Utah County for several years before accepting a job opportunity in Cache Valley. I can confidently say that Cache Valley has been my favorite place to live; there is a special hometown feeling here that cannot be found anywhere else.

My wife Michelle and I moved our family to Smithfield in 1998, and it quickly became home; we raised our family here and never want to leave. We have three children who have all loved growing up in Smithfield: Zack is 30 and works as an account manager; Katy is 26 and works as a high school English teacher; Liz is 21 and is currently serving a mission in Seattle, Washington.

I love this beautiful city and all it has to offer.  I want to be involved in the decision-making process and to represent the voice of the citizens of our community.   I look forward to serving on the city council and would appreciate your vote and support. Please feel free to contact me using the form below with any questions concerning my candidacy, views on growth for Smithfield, or any other topic you would like to discuss.

    EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

    CHARITABLE SERVICE

In addition to my civic service, I spent three years on the Board of Directors for The Child and Family Support Center, now known as The Family Place.  I have also worked in various capacities in my church, starting by  serving a mission in Osorno, Chile and continuing to serve in different areas  from ecclesiastical positions to overseeing finances. I  have also had the opportunity to serve in a Hispanic branch in my church, allowing me to meet a diverse group of people and understand more clearly the varying needs of the citizens of  Smithfield.

    CIVIC SERVICE

I have served on the Smithfield Planning and Zoning Commission since 2008, and I am currently serving as Chairman.  During this time, I have learned about the importance of drafting strong ordinances, adhering to the General Plan, and how to apply land use laws for the common good.  I have had the opportunity to interact with people from all areas of our community, from issuing conditional use permits for pets and businesses to planning new subdivisions.  I was a member of the committee assigned to work on redesigning the Smithfield General Plan. I worked with other City Council members and an engineering group to examine needs and make recommendations on all aspects of our community, including future transportation needs, potential locations for commercial development, and areas for green space as our city looks to grow over the next several years.

I have worked for the same employer, RR Donnelley, for over 26 years.  During that time period, I have progressed through increasingly more difficult assignments.  I currently work as Director of Application Development for the Western Region.  I am responsible for over 60 people and a multi-million dollar budget.  I have learned about cost control and accountability of meeting financial commitments, not only to our company, but to the shareholders as well.
